Day Six - Canada Day in Stewart

This was a lovely day with time enough for a siesta!!! The day started off with a nice breakfast and some reorganizing of the coolers! We have power at this site and have learned that if you leave the plug-in cooler (great gift mom) "plugged in" then you will have frozen goods in the morning! That cooler is now the beer fridge as we usually only have it plugged in while driving - it's nice having a crisp cool Corona. It would appear that the local wildlife share this opinion!

We took in the Stewart Canada Day parade which included more quad's (including a Mountie in full dress uniform) than trucks and that ended with a four helicopter fly-by (twice really)! It was really fun to be part of it and you could see that the locals and tourists really got into it! There was a motorcyclist (biker doesn't really capture him well) behind me that kept running out for the candy that kids were leaving behind - at one point he said, "I just don't know what's wrong with you kids today!". One of my favorite sites were the two little boys who were using Crown Royal bags as their candy bags...I didn't know there was a use beyond scrabble for those bags!

The rest of the day was taken up with doing chores (laundry and blog entries), exploring the town - Dad likes to take pictures of me taking pictures...it's weird but it's dad - and having siestas! We had a nice dinner at the King Edward Hotel as that was the site of the laundromat. It made me think (and oddly miss) of Ship & Shore and how busy it got on long weekends and hot HOT it could get. The poor waitress was working by herself for a while and to make matters just a little bit worse - all the other restaurants in town were closed for the holiday!!!
Janay - I hope you enjoyed the latest up-dates. The fireman pic was included for you! It could be a couple of days before a new posting as we're off to another bug infested recreation site for a night or two before heading to Bob Quin lake. After that it'll be Dease Lake and Jade City!
